Critical view on today's sociology - where are we headed ?
This book features useful examples, frequent applications to real-world living, and cross-cultural perspectives. The author writes with a precision and clarity lacking in many sociology texts and makes the presentation of sociology both informative and interesting. Sociology: An Introduction 6th Edition. The actual text is easy to read and understand. End of each chapter has a useful overview with key terms. Comment Report abuse. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for sociology 101. September 13, 2018.

Intro To Sociology Terms
The book [2nd Edition] is very easy to read and understand. A must for students of other fields who want to have a peep into sociology without spending too much time. This book discusses the major question of modern sociology. Not only does it give the reader fast insight into some major matters of sociology, but it also saves the reader many hours of unnecessary reading for an introduction to the subject.
I have used this book along a more traditional sociology text book, Gellles and Levine 6th Edition, and this book has taken more and more of lecture time. I like the fact that it pust sociology into a global perspective, though I do think some of the examples are geared toward traditional, middle class university students, and not the working class, non traditional students I work with at a community college. However, compared to the G/L book this text is much shorter and conscise. A great introductory text book for sociology, with personal examples to think critically and sociologically about globalization. I also like its inclusion of feminist theory and general gender issues through out the book, not just in the gender chapter. I highly recommend it.
I thought this book was really helpful in introducing the basic terms and concepts of Sociology. Everything is clear cut and really easy to understand. This is a great book if you're just starting to learn about Sociology. If you are already a pro then you probably will only need this book to refresh some basic concepts.
This book may give you the 'meat and potatoes' of sociology but unfortunetly it doesn't give you more than that. If your goal is to put some of your curiosity into perspective this is propably the book. But if you want to understand the field of sociology as an academic discipline this suffers from not focusing on theories but on themes. It will spark the 'sociological imagination' but I will not read the book again and again. This book may be helpful in high school but for college and up you need to supplement (or replace) it with one which focus on theories and theorists like 'Classical & Modern Social Theory' by Heine Andersen and Lars Bo Kaspersen which is the best introduction to theorists from Marx to Giddens IMO. THIS is the book that will follow me always.
Great book. I was able to find all of the answers I needed for the course that I was taking.
Easy to understand and showed a lot of examples that applied to the modern society today.
This text is an excellent, well-organized compilation of basic sociology. It incorporates many recent examples- i.e. the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and presents the concepts in a way that is easy to absorb...that's pretty much it; an overall great text.
Very useful subject. Well written. Good overview of sociology. I would recommend it to any college student interested in social sciences.
Buy this used book. Don't spend money on a new book because this class is mostly common sense. Seriously a waste of my time.
I only bought this for a college course. The book was helpful and interesting. More interesting than the class itself!
this book is an excellent choice for students and teachers in sociology classes. good readings, good studies, and overall good information. Also this book is smaller than the actual one, but its good because it has the same info as the larger one just less pictures, but all the studies, information, and charts remain.
This is honestly a great book! I learned so much reading this book alone and it honestly makes me look at things (or I should I say people) a little more differently now. I feel like you get your money's worth with this one: it's pretty thick and in my class we went through a good amount of the chapters so it wasn't a waster of money. I sold it back to Amazon because times are tight and I needed the money but I would certainly buy this textbook again. Also unless you school has it super cheap, buy it from here and not from your school.
Repetitive, not concise, nothing but common sense and statistics.

Had to rent this horrible textbook for my Sociology Class. I'm so happy I'm no longer taking it. The text book is very redundant and often repeats itself. YES IT GET IT, MARX's CLASS CONFLICT IS A BIG THING but WHY IN THE WORLD does it REPEAT ITSELF SO MUCH. The first two chapters, it's fine to talk about class conflict but to see it over and over again just drags out the content. Seriously this textbook could be so much shorter. It's not just me but it's also my class mates and even some of the amazon reviews, alot of people agree with this. Oh and don't get me started with the redundancy of functionalism repeating itself. I actually had to use another sociology textbook from another friend, and that book was so much more concise. Nothing but dragged out statistics and redundancy to make the text-book longer to make it seem more 'content-filled.' Blech... I got an A in the class but I hated it and I loathe' this book with a passion. Most of the content is literally common sense, making me question the 'value' of learning sociology... I respect the field but this textbook was awful.
This textbook was a complete headache to read with it's long chapters and needlessly detailed explanations (some definitions don't need to take up half a margin!). I wouldn't suggest it for any class, too wordy and it's easy to get caught up in unimportant details, I have the impression that I would have enjoyed SOC1010 more if it wasn't for the textbook.
Has some good stuff, but you need to dig through $%#$ to find it

This book has a lot of filler space and uses a bunch of outdated data from 2010/2011. I am taking an intro to sociology course and this book was required. It could be 50 pages shorter and nothing would be lost. Some of the definitions are so obvious, that it makes you question why they need a definition for many of the 'terms.' Example: White collar crime- 'criminal activities carried out by those in white collar, or professional jobs' This definition doesn't expanded on anything from the vocab word. Like what is the point if it says the exact same thing. Do yourself a favor and read The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell instead.
Great Substitute textbook for the most recent edition.

This book was purchased as a textbook for a college Sociology class. The book was the version prior to the current textbook, but other than some more current statistics, this book filled the need. This textbook was amazing because of the significant reduction in price. The book was in fair condition.
Rented it at very low price (ebook version) because my class do requires it. I read through it a bit and it is interesting and easy to understand. ...Shame I only read it first week (and I'm still passing my class with flying color) despite how my professor ensured the whole class that we absolutely need it. If you are renting it for class,MAKE SURE you are getting right version, I believe it's hardcopy version cover have different color from ebook version of it. If you need this book because you are interested (not because your class requires it), I would suggest PURCHASING hardcopy version or ebook not renting it because rental period is last about 4-5 months (just enough time for student to read it ONE semester) and unless you can memorize the whole book during that time, it would be better to purchase it rather than renting it again and again.
Exactly the book I needed for my sociology class this semester even though the book that my instructor wanted was blue covered I took a chance on this one since it seemed to be the same just a purple cover and around 40 dollars cheaper. Not one time this semester did I have any problems keeping up with the class because it wasn't the blue covered edition

Introduction To Sociology Books
Wow. There is a lot of wordy nonsense in this book. Doesn't really focus on the big picture but provides a bunch of examples on everything. The book is also poorly organized and the dictation is dull. If you want to learn sociology and its a new field of study for you, this book will rip your enthusiasm to shreds. The book came in good condition though.
The book in it itself is okay. Gives ALOT of examples, but is not the greatest in the world. A lot of useless words. Alot of fluff good questions to ponder upon but the answers are not always directly in the book which I think beats the purpose of the book with questions. Amazon did an awesome job in getting the book for me on time and I was very satisfied with its conditions. Don't buy it unless you really need it. Not worth keeping to reread.
Good book.
I dropped this class after purchased this text. It's not your fault, it's this class's fault. lol

Decent textbook, required for class.
Personally one of the best textbooks I own. As a student I bought this to compliment my Social Science Curriculum and I find this introduction to be quite fascinating. If you are preparing for class this book is a lovely addition and if you just want to read into Sociology for fun, this book works like a charm.
Quality school book
A good introductory book
Did the trick
Some of the pages are not connected to the binding. They are tucked in the spots that they need to be but I am afraid to lose them. Other than that it is cool to be able to rent a book for my class.
perfect
Pages were falling out of this book. It was very hard to keep it together. Content was interesting so four stars for content.
