Like most computers, Asus Eee PCs have a BIOS utility that controls how the netbook uses hardware and performs tasks independently of the operating system. Common tasks you can perform within BIOS include changing the system time, changing device boot order, disabling specific boot settings and configuring security features. Because this utility runs outside of the operating system, it's accessible even if the system crashes, and you can no longer access Windows.

Save any work you have open and then restart your Eee PC.

Press 'F2' repeatedly when you first see the Asus logo. If Windows begins loading, you missed the limited window of time for accessing BIOS, so wait until Windows finishes booting and then try again. Don't force the netbook to shut down while Windows boots. If you have trouble entering BIOS, quickly and repeatedly press 'F2' during the entire boot process to guarantee you time it correctly. You can stop pressing the key when it begins loading BIOS.

Press the arrow keys to navigate within BIOS. The left and right arrow keys move between screens, and the up and down arrows move between items. To select an entry to modify, press 'Enter.'

Press 'F10' to save your changes and exit BIOS. To exit without saving, press 'Esc.'

Another common task is changing boot order, so you can boot from a USB flash drive or an external DVD player. Although you can temporarily change boot order by pressing 'Esc' while booting the device, you can permanently change the boot preference through the Boot Device Priority feature, located on the BIOS Boot tab.
